Who is SHE?

    We often seem to carry this mentality that there are “perfect” features. The perfect lashes are long and thick. The perfect cheekbones are defined like artistry. The perfect jawline looks as if it were chiseled by the entire Greek pantheon of gods. That’s the mentality that we seem to have adopted especially within America. 


    So many people desire these perfect features because they believe that they will be mercilessly captivating. But I’m here to tell you that this is simply not true.


    Perhaps it's because we as a society have partially forgotten what beautiful really means. Maybe it’s because modern social media has raised the “beauty bar” so high that it is nearly unattainable. 


    All women are beautiful regardless of their skin color, hair color, and appearance.


    The statement above is something that I’ve heard countless times in different ways. It is a phrase that groups all women together and calls them beautiful regardless of how they appear. This phrase needs to stop being used.


    But why?







    Because SHE is beautiful because of her skin. SHE is beautiful because of her hair. SHE is beautiful because of her appearance. SHE is beautiful because of these things, not regardless of these things. But what if beauty goes even deeper?


    At the end of the day, every woman on this planet is unique and completely one of a kind. That makes her beautiful. But her beauty blossoms from within as well. It comes from the way that SHE expresses herself. Whether it be through clothing, makeup, or another passion, a woman’s beauty truly shines when SHE expresses herself. 


    So it leaves one question… 


    Who is SHE? 


    SHE is beautiful.

            As a child, it was undeniable that I was different. I would always do this thing where I would flail my dainty hands around in the air as I ran around playing tag with my friends. Being Gay on a Scale of 1-10

  “If you see two men holding hands, cross the road and stay away from them.” “That transvestite is wearing women’s clothes... Disgusting!” “Stop running like a girl, Frankie!” “Of course God loves you. But if you continue down this path, you won’t be able to have a relationship with Him.” These are just a few of the things that I heard growing up whether from friends, family, school, or church. Growing up in a household that primarily practiced Southern Baptist Christianity, it wasn’t very difficult for me to tell that I was different from all of the other boys. I would find myself trying on my mother’s dresses and heels while she would work her doubles at the pharmacy to support her two children and stay at home husband. Right after she would finish doing her own makeup, I knew that it was time for her to go into her room and do her hair.
